Whistling Arch Trail

Red River Gorge Geological Area, Kentucky

Whistling Arch Trail #234 leaves the trailhead parking area and extends along a wooded ridge that follows the road closely, as evidenced by the occasional sound of passing traffic, to the trail's main attraction - a huge dry rock shelter with a scenic overlook and Whistling Arch, a buttress-type arch formation.

To reach the arch, follow the well-used trail through the rhododendron, being careful of the roots growing in the path. As you reach the arch, you'll see a giant rock shelter to your right – continue on the trail to the left to quickly view the small, picturesque, easily accessible arch.

You'll have a few options at this point, either continue further for some light rock climbing and some wonderful views of Parched Corn Creek drainage or climb up and through the arch to easily access the rock shelter you saw when you first approached the cliff – this option allows you to climb around the rocks a bit before heading back to the trailhead or you can just return the way you came after viewing Whistling Arch from the main trail.
