Angel Windows

Red River Gorge Geological Area, Kentucky

Angel Windows, a set of two small arches, are accessed via an easy 0.76-mile roundtrip trail located off KY 715—the two “windows,” the largest of which spans approximately 10 feet, often have sunshine streaming through the openings, lending an ethereal quality and I would imagine that the origin of their name comes from this phenomenon. The trail appears to descend into the Parched Corn Creek canyon, but actually, it stays along the ridge top as it meanders through towering trees and thick rhododendron stands, known as “rhody hells.” The setting of the Angel Windows definitely add to the appeal of these small arches, in particular, the area just beyond the arches provide a dramatic view of the canyon and of the towering rock houses and recess caves located in the cliffs above.
