Uncle Tom’s Trail and Artist Point
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
For an unparalleled canyon and waterfall experience, descend 500 feet down 300 steps into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone via Uncle Tom’s Trail. Paved inclines and perforated steel sheeting might make this trail seem easy, but this strenuous trail is best left to those in good physical shape. Your goal is a platform from which you can get great views of Lower Falls, but be forewarned, the climb back to your car can be quite grueling for those not used to the altitude and exertion, but the views are worth the effort. If it is a less strenuous approach you are after, then drive on down the South Rim Trail to Artist Point. When you reach this set of overlooks you will be awed by the view of the Yellowstone River dropping over 300 feet, via Lower Falls, to the canyon below.
