Great Marsh Trail – Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana

The Great Marsh, a popular Indiana Dunes trail that features an observation platform where you might spot a wide variety of birds such as Great Blue Herons and Sandhill Cranes, is the largest interdunal wetland in the Lake Michigan watershed – it serves as a critical habitat for breeding and migratory birds as well as a healthy wetland ecosystem featuring a variety of plant life.

Two trailheads offer ways to explore the Great Marsh – our hike starts from the south parking lot trailhead. From here it is a short 0.3 mile walk to the wetlands. Follow the trail generally north until the T-junction. At the junction you can turn right to complete the lollipop loop or left and head straight to the Great Marsh observation deck. Lastly, hike back to the T-junction and turn right, which will take you back to the south parking lot.
