Brandywine Falls Gorge and Overlook

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

Brandywine Falls, a signature attraction of the Cuyahoga Valley, cascades 67 feet down into a gorge made from sandstone and shale. This beautiful waterfall is easily reached via a short 1/8 of a mile long boardwalk that is accessed from the Brandywine Falls parking lot.

The boardwalk itself is an architectural marvel—it is built into the side of the gorge in order to protect the fragile environment, but the highlight is of course the magnificent waterfall. Along the boardwalk, you will find several different viewpoints—each one offering a stunning view of the falls.

When you have finished gazing at the cascading water, head back up the boardwalk and over towards the Brandywine Inn—from there you can access the Brandywine Gorge Trail. The Brandywine Gorge Trail takes the hiker down to the stream bed that is fed by Brandywine Falls, at one point crossing the stream via a few well-placed stepping-stones. The trail is 1.25 miles long and has an elevation gain of 160 feet on the climb back out of the gorge—it will take most hikers about one hour to complete.
